Sailing through after 3 attempts; the Akua Donkor story

The Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, to contest the presidential slot for the 2020 elections.

This was announced Monday, October 19, 2020 by the Chairperson of the EC, who doubles as the Returning Officer for the 2020 presidential elections, Jean Mensah.

This is the first time “Ɛnyɛɛ nono”, as she is affectionately known, passed through the nomination stage to contest for the highest office of the land.

Akua Donkor nurtured her ambitions in 2012 but failed to sail through the nomination stage, as well as that of the 2016 elections.

She was disqualified after submitting her nomination forms in 2016.

After submitting her nomination for the 2020 polls, Akua Donkor told the media she “was naive of the paper works about the forms in 2012, however, after learning everything and abiding by them in 2016, she was still disqualified by the EC then, Charlotte Osei, where she realised former president Mahama had a hand in it.”

She added “God punished Mahama for me by making him lose the presidency becuase of what he did to me and that is the reason I always say he will never become president again whenever I get the opportunity to speak.”

Broadcaster, Adakabre Frimpong Manso is Akua Donkor’s running mate.

He says he partnered Akua Donkor because she has “home sense” when he spoke with Angel FM’s Kofi Adoma Nwanwani, which was monitored by Ghanas Online when he was named.

To him, her ability to make prudent economic, social and political decisions to shape the fortunes of this country is enough grounds to warrant her his support.

Even though Mr. Frimpong Manso says there is this “comedian tag” on her personality, some of her promises are what the ruling New Patriotic Party is implementing, which makes her a visionary leader.
