Assakae chief, residents laud gov’t dumpsite evacuation exercise

Chief of Assakae in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EFKMA) in the Western region, Nana Kwadwo Asante II have extoled the Ministry Sanitation and Water Resources for embarking on an exercise to clear an aged dump site in his area.

The chief says the exercise was timely, adding the Assakae dump site had become a headache for the community.

He commended the making Ghana the cleanest country agenda and the sector minister spearheading the initiative, Cecilia Abena Dapaa.

Nana Kwadwo Asante II made the commendation at the during the emergency national refuse evacuation exercise being undertaken by the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources on Tuesday, October 21.

He described the exercise as a “huge relief.”

The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Kofi Acquah, stated the assembly will construct toilet facilities and station waste containers at the site, following the evacuation exercise.

The facilities he stressed would be kept under good hygienic conditions.

Some residents equally expressed how they’re relieved, with Ato Mensah saying “we now have a sigh of relief, especially now that government has cleared this huge aged stinking dump site.

Another resident, George Amoako, said the site has affected their hygiene adversely.

The exercise is being carried out across other regions in the country.
