Human Capital and Social Development International (HuCASDEVI), a local based NGO, has ended the year with West Africa Mercy Mission Children’s Home (WAMM) at Abokobi Teiman in the Greater Accra Region with a mammoth party and a huge donation.
The gesture was extended to other street children and residents of other orphanage homes.
HuCASDEVI selects one orphanage and supports them each year, and climaxes it with an end of year party during the yuletide.
Since 2013 when the ministry to the orphanages and foster homes commenced, HuCASDEVI has supported eight orphanages and foster homes including the selected children’s home for this year.
The selected orphanage this year, WAMM, is a special need children’s home and therefore needed special attention. Throughout the year WAMM was visited more than 5 times where donations were made and also interactions with the children and workers were made. Support to aid surgeries and cater for other medical needs were offered to the home.
Speaking with Ghanas Online, Executive Director of HuCASDEVI, Kwadwo Konadu, indicated “this year’s party and donation is the largest number we have organised the party for with over three hundred (300) participants. It’s the first time that we have involved street children and children from other children homes. The children at WAMM are less than twenty (20).”
“It also happens to be the largest donation we have made to a selected orphanage or foster home to end our year support,” he added.
The children were entertained with great Afrobeat gospel tunes, Christmas songs, games and others. Variety of games were also played to make them happy. Some children didn’t want to leave when their buses were ready to depart.
Items donated to the kids included bags of rice, boxes of various diapers, cleaning detergents, cooking oil, children food, toiletries, sugar, Hot chocolate, pastries, biscuits, packs of sachet water, packs of bottled water, crates of drinks and others amounting to GHC22,550.00.
A cash donation of GHC2,200.00 was also given to support the home.
Receiving the items on behalf of the home, Director of WAMM, Rev. William Deku, expressed their profound gratitude to the organisation for the immense support given to WAMM throughout the year despite the difficulties many economies encountered including Ghana.
“I’m overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of things donated to us and the love shown us by HuCASDEVI throughout the year. This is real love and selflessness at work and when we thought we were going to struggle this year, HuCASDEVI was sent by God to make us smile and happy,” he said.
Wife of the Rev., Priscilla Deku also noted “this is the largest single donation we have received since the establishment of WAMM ten years ago.”
She also put across an appeal to seek support to aid them complete an ongoing building that will enable them take in more special needs children.
They need 320 bags of cement to complete the cement works on the building according to her.
Kwadwo Konadu who led the HuCASDEVI team thanked Rev. William and Priscilla Deku and the staff at WAMM for the wonderful work they are doing for God and humanity.
He promised to give a helping hand in getting the 320 bags of cement needed by WAMM.
He added the “feat couldn’t have been achieved without the great support from individuals and organisations who have been supporting us to reach out to these wonderful people.”
Despite the pandemic that hit the world this year causing more havoc economically, socially and financially, HuCASDEVI was able to reach out to three Children Homes, especially during the lockdown period.
