Breaking: Akufo-Addo to lay off over 50 ministers for second term

Information reaching Ghanas Online indicate President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to reduce the number of ministers for his second term drastically.

In his first term of office, President Akufo-Addo appointed a record 125 Ministers which many believed was a drain to the national coffers.

Speaking on Adom Kaseɛ with Afia Amankwaah Tamakloe on January 11, closely monitored by Ghanas Online, JoyNews’ Presidential Correspondent, Elton John Brobbey indicated there would be at least, 50 and at most, 70 Ministers for the President’s second term.

Elton explained there would be no deputy ministers for all the 16 regions, whilst no substantive ministry will get more than one deputy.

Also, the President has realigned some ministries such as Procurement, Business Development, Special Development, Aviation and others to some substantive ministries.

Elton explained it is expected that a letter would be sent to the Speaker latest by February ending, so that the House will have full component of the Ministers for government machinery to kickstart by early March.

By close of this week, all details of the appointements is expected to be out.
