IMANI has never received any support from LGBTQI – Franklin Cudjoe

Policy think tank, IMANI Centre for Policy and Education has distanced itself from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender and Queer Intersex Rights (LGBTQI) group.

The think tank says it has not received any financial aid from the group as being peddled on social media.

In a Facebook post from its Founder and President, Franklin Cudjoe, he stated unequivocally that IMANI has never received any help from LGBTQIs as people have alleged to be the reason for their silence on the ongoing debate.

“I now understand why some are asking for IMANI’s stance on LGBTQI issues. I have read a bit now. Let me state emphatically, that IMANI has never received any support from any LGBTQI groups,” Mr. Cudjoe stated.

He, however, indicated, should the group provide IMANI any aid without strings, it would welcome it to support their vision of shaping public policy.

“If they give us money unconditionally, we will receive and use it to pursue our mission of holding public officers accountable,” he added.

Franklin Cudjoe furthered that “IMANI holds conservative, Christian, almost Catholic thoughts on such issues, but at the same time recognise our limitations to recommend how other humans should live their lives.”

The issue about gayism has become topical recently after the European Union (EU) aided the commissioning of the group’s office in an undisclosed location in the national capital, Accra.

The EU further commended Ghana for supporting activities of LGBTQIs and pledged to offer support for entities that respect the rights of the group.

This has caused the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values led by its Executive Secretary, Moses Foh-Amoaning together with the Catholic Bishops Conference and other groups calling for government to declare its stance on the issue and consequently shutdown the office.
