Akufo-Addo orders closure of LGBTQI office in Accra

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has ordered closure of the administrative office of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender, queer (LGBTQ) in Accra, Ghanas Online has learnt.

The closure was carried out with the leadership of the National Coalition for Proper Human Rights and Family Values (NCPHRFV).

This follows the backlash from various groups including the NCPHRFV and the Catholic Bishops Conference after the group commissioned its office in Accra with support from the European Union.

Assin South Legislator, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour also called on the President to abate activities of the group, including fetish priest and traditionalist, Nana Kwaku Bonsam who expressed shock about the development on Angel FM’s Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ Tuesday, February 22, 2021, asking why a Christian nation like Ghana should permit the construction of gays and lesbians office.

According to the National Coalition for Proper Human Rights and Family Values, the presence of the LGBTQI office disregards the cultural values and sanity of the country.

Speaking on Joy FM’s “A Walk With Jesus” Sunday, February 21, 2021, Executive Secretary of the NCPHRFV, Moses Foh-Amoaning indicated the President Akufo-Addo has heeded to their call and ordered a shutdown of the edifice.
