Christian Council sets 3 days fasting and prayers against Covid-19

The Christian Council of Ghana is set to combat Sars-Cov-2, the virus that causes the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) with a three-day fasting and prayer.

Chairman of the Council, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, was monitored by Ghanas Online on Angel FM’s Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ Wednesday, February 24, 2021, when he disclosed the information.

Even though details of activities during the period is yet to be released, Most Rev. Boafo noted the exercise will begin on Wednesday March 3 to Friday, March 5, 2021.

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana indicated the purpose of the spiritual exercise “is for God to bring an end to it for us and also educate the citizenry about the virus to discard the numerous myths surrounding it.”

Let alone, they hope positive patients would be healed and also subdue the spike associated with the second wave.

Education according to the Most Rev. has been attached to the prayers “because the prayer alone cannot do it and that’s the reason we also need to play our role as men.”

When asked if God did not heed to the earlier fasting and prayer that was meant to prevent the virus from coming to Ghana, he said “God listened to our earlier prayers because the spike in the US and other regions suggested Ghana and Africa were going to die like flies but we believe our prayers made God intervene.”

He told Captain Smart the Council will embark on similar exercise to curb the menace of corruption that’s on the ascendency in the country.

“Very soon you’ll hear from us. We’ve been praying about it but very soon you’ll hear the national declaration on it. Sanctity has nothing to do with corruption and we’ll pray it is eliminated from our society,” Most Rev. Boafo indicated when asked when the Christian Council will pray against corruption.

Touching on the issue of LGBTQI that has become topical in the country, he said the Council is strongly against it and were part of the group that revealed the LGBTQI has erected and open an office space in Accra.

He added the practice will not be condoned in Ghana because “marriage in the Bible does not go with what they hold. Our tradition and Islam religion all frown on gay practices.”
