Amidu’s Airbus comments “balderdash and patronage” – Dafeamekpor

The Special Prosecutor’s comments on the Airbus Scandal have been described as “complete balderdash and total patronage” by a Member of Parliament.

The South Dayi Legislator, Rockson-Nelson Etsi Kwami Dafeamekpor, who made the comments whilst speaking with Ghanas Online said Martin Amidu’s statement exhibits the inefficiency in his office.

He, therefore says, former President Mahama’s description of Mr. Amidu’s comments as ‘stupid‘ is in the right direction.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in publishing findings of the Agyapa Corruption Assessment Risk attached a portion specifying some controversies about the Airbus scandal.

The report says ‘Government Official 1’ as described in the Airbus SE scandal is former President John Dramani Mahama.

However, Martin Amidu says he is unable to probe him because he is a politician, vying for the highest office of the land, on the ticket of the biggest opposition party.

This, the South Dayi MP says is complete balderdash and total patronage of the entire citizenry.

He says the OSP’s responsibility to execute its mandate without fear or favour, is compromised, per Amidu’s comments.

“…Is he not the one who says he will pursue justice without fear or favour? Now he is avoiding to pursue justice because he is afraid?,” he asked.

Mr. Dafeamekpor added the OSP’s claim that he cannot pursue the case because John Mahama is a politician, is the reason many Ghanaians hate politicians.

“My party’s National Chairman is standing prosecution for supposedly making some recordings. Prosecution is not saying that because he is the Chairman of the greatest opposition party, they won’t prosecute him. Don’t let us send such signal to the generality of the people. That is why an MP in his vehicle can be stopped and shot dead and told that they are creating problems in the country,” he stressed.

He told Mr. Amidu to act in the remit of the law if he suspects Mr. Mahama is implicated, rather than making unreasonable excuses.

“If you think the former president has engaged in criminality, which I have no doubt he hasn’t, by every stretch of imagination they’re trying to stretch all these issues to get to him, invite him. This is complete patronage and should not be accepted from Martin Amidu at all,” he indicated.

The Barrister further indicated “the law does not preclude you [Amidu] from investigating and prosecuting John Mahama if he thinks that he has basis but he has no such basis. He was in this country and the constitution is very clear that if you think he has engaged in criminality prosecute him within 3 years, after 3 years, the man is constitutionally insulated.

Meanwhile, John Mahama has called Mr. Amidu’s action ‘stupid’ and said he (Amidu) was a ‘coward’, daring him to prosecute him if he was man enough.
