Dansoman: Residents express elation over third phase of market disinfection
Residents of Dansoman have welcomed the third phase of market disinfection that took place within the Ablekuma West Municipality in Accra.
The exercise, which is a Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources Zoomlion collaboration is part of government’s effort of curbing the spread of the Coronavirus.
Speaking with Ghanas Online on the sides of the exercise, some residents indicated the disinfection is a big relief for them.

Ofori, a trotro mate who operates from the Dansoman SSNIT Market to Tema Station said the exercise would rid off the mosquitoes from the market for them.
“We are normally disturbed by rodents and insects so this disinfection will get them out for us,” added Dora, a chop bar operator at the SSNIT Market.
Aside preventing the spread of Covid-19, Lizzy, a hairdresser believes they would be saved from other diseases that are airborne.
They also lauded government and the waste management giants, Zoomlion, for the collaboration.

“We are really grateful to the authorities for doing this for us. They should continually help us because we don’t know who carries the virus as we walk to and fro,” Charles, a trotro driver told Ghanas Online.

The exercise begun at the Dansoman Market where stalls, shops, floors and shelves were disinfected. The team proceeded to the SSNIT Market and completed at Dansoman Last Stop.
Scope of third phase disinfection
Greater Accra Zonal Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Ernest Morgan Acquah said the third phase of the exercise was influenced by President Akufo-Addo’s 19th Covid-19 address which indicated resurgence of positive cases in the country.
Mr. Acquah added the disinfection which begun Thursday, November 12, will stem through Sunday, covering 141 markets in the Greater Accra region in all the 29 MMDAs. Meanwhile, the exercise started across the entire country on Monday, November 9, 2020.

“Aside the markets, all public toilet and lorry parks would also be disinfected,” he added.
He pleaded with the market women to give the team their cooperation since they can reopen their shops after two to three hours of completing the exercise.
Mr. Acquah, however, advised that aside the disinfection, people should adhere to the protocols to ensure complete eradication of the pandemic.
