Mahama’s claim of bringing FSHS: A wilful dishonesty or weird level of ignorance

It beats imagination how the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is now claiming originators of the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy conceived and implemented under the able leadership of President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP).

It is on record that President Akufo-Addo campaigned on the mantra of free shs in 2012 and lost in that election. Prior to that election, Nana Addo was noted for trumpeting the implementation of the FSHS for several years should he win the election.

During the 2012 State of the Nation’s Address, John Mahama who was the elected President mentioned he was going to start free shs which wasn’t well received by his party cronies on the grounds of it being a policy conceived by Akufo-Addo.

Nana Addo being an honest person after hearing the idea by Mahama of implementing the policy opined the policy is good if Mahama is really serious about it. This made made Nana Addo made a comment as “Mahama’s free SHS good news for Ghanaians”.

After this, the NDC dissociated themselves from the whole FSHS thing and in order not to make their leader, John Mahama look bad, started explaining that he was talking about progressively free education.

That was the moment the NDC said Free SHS is only possible after 20 years but rather has to be progressive. Mahama himself on several platforms has badmouthed Nana’s FSHS so why the sudden change of events now?

Meanwhile, Akufo-Addo maintained the FSHS would be possible within his first year of office and as a man of his words he delivered in his first year of office.

So for anyone to twist these events to allude that Mahama introduced FSHS is either being intentionally dishonest or has a weird level of ignorance which needs FSHS as soon as possible.

The issue of Nana Addo or Mahama starting FSHS will be settled by the over one million Free Senior High School graduates come 7th December. Till then let those who badmouthed the policy claim ownership of it.
