Breaking: #FixTheCountry advocate narrowly escapes death from alleged NPP thugs at Asuoso
Information reaching SmartMediaGh.com indicate a #FixTheCountry advocate, one Sylvester Asabre, has been chased out on his motor bike by some youth in the area suspected to be members of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
The youth had earlier threatened the mother of Sylvester to release him for them following some videos he shot in the constituency which they claim is tarnishing the image of the Member of Parliament (MP) in the constituency, Augustine Collins Ntim.
In a video exclusive to SmartMediaGh.com, Sylvester, who was riding his bike with a friend said they were chased out by some guys in a taxi with one guy by the name OC, who was sitting in front and issuing out commands.
He says OC and his entourage told them to stop the bike or else knock them off the ground.
After exhibiting an unscripted version of fast and furious showdown at Asuoso on the Kumasi -Techiman highway, they diverted their motor bike along a path that heads to a nearby bush along the road.
But for a tree trunk that hampered the motion of the taxi, Sylvester continued that he and his friend would have been grounded by the taxi.
He says his situation is akin to that of Kaaka and called on all and sundry to rise and protect those speaking against the ills confronting their respective vicinities and the nation as a whole.
“We were on the main road. We had to branch here and this log saved us from the taxi, else they would have knocked us down. There is one guy who sat in front and gave out the command. His name is OC and I saw him. He was the one saying we should stop the motor else they’ll knock us down. Now I am not safe. They want to kill me like they killed Kaaka. From the way they’re threatening me, my life is not safe. If I die, please rise up,” he narrated in a video taken at the incident scene.
An eyewitness by name Tsikata, who spoke to SmartMediaGh.com said the incident happened right in front of the Assemblies of God Church which is closer to their house at Asuoso. He says the events unfolded so quick that the taxis had sped off the time they rushed to the scene.
“It happened in front of our house near the Assemblies of God Church. The taxi followed the motor on a small bridge inside the bush. There were some noise so when I came out of the house, I saw two people running away. By the time we got there, the taxi had drove away and the people have taken the bike along so we couldn’t even take the taxi’s number. It’s a red taxi. They headed to the Nkenkenso road,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Sylvester has been telling SmartMediaGh the motor bike has been sent to the Akomadan police station by OC when he went there to file a complaint.
Sylvester says OC claimed he sent the motor to the police station so that Sylvester would report himself to the police since he is a suspect.
“He (OC) says I’m a suspect for doing a video so they want to cross me and send the bike there so that I’ll come. But I submitted myself to the district command yesterday after they invited me[ through the District Education Directorate HR],” he said.
Background
Sylvester Asabre, a teacher at the Offinso North District of the Ashanti region made a video condemning the MP for the constituency, Augustine Collins Ntim, for denying a community in his constituency during his vetting as Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development.
During the vetting, Mr. Suhuyini inquired from the MP if a dilapidated school in a town called Akrofoa falls in his constituency which the MP said no.
Meanwhile, the said community according residents of the area falls within the Offinso North District and constituency. This and other projects the MP claimed to have done for the people is what Sylvester made a video to rebut, saying it’s a shame a whole MP is not wholly abreast with the areas within his constituency, more shamefully when he is going to be a deputy minister for Local Government and Decentralisation.
The video, which he says he posted on a WhatsApp platform comprising youth of the area spiked controversy when some young men stormed his mother’s house to demand his release or else faced their wrath.
Speaking on the Smart Show Thursday, July 1, 2021, Sylvester told Captain Smart the District Police Command has invited him through a message given to him by the Human Resource Manager of the District Education Directorate which he honoured according to the report given today –Saturday, July 3, 2021.
Captain Smart warned of a recurrence of Kaaka, another social media activist who was murdered at Ejura Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region, pushing the youth on rampage to claim two more lives and other injuries when the military clashed and shot into the demonstrating youth.
