#FixTheCountry: This is what any reasonable President would have done – Akufo-Addo told

William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is President of Ghana

#FixTheCountry started in the first quarter of 2021 when majority of Ghanaians were hit by the tough economic conditions resulting from increment in fuel and other taxes imposed by the government.

After emerging victorious in a keenly contested election in 2020, Ghanaians, –except a few government officials and some loyalists of the New Patriotic Party –became disappointed at the turn of events and started asking leadership to fix the mess in the country.

Some legislators from the ruling party and ministers told advocates of #FixTheCountry to fix themselves rather than demanding leadership from government officials.

But on Onua Maakye with Caption Smart Monday, August 2, 2021, with Ghanasonline.com monitoring, Okatakyie Afrifa said if the Akufo-Addo he knows and campaigned for, is still the leader of the country, he would have handled the furore the simplest way.

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah

“If the Nana Addo I know was the one leading this country, the solution to this FixTheCountry brouhaha was so simple for him to have handled”

“He should have issued a statement to personally welcome the youth on their demonstration. Then he tells them ‘I was waiting for you the youth to rise. I told Prof. Mills on May 9th when I was in opposition to fix the country when he said things have broken down.”

“Now I’m here and I know what the situation is. Let’s all go home and have a renewal of the mind because if I want to hear each of you, we won’t finish today. So let’s pen whatever we need fixed on paper,” he suggested.

He continued that, “select 16 representatives, one from each of the regions and I’ll meet them over a month time. These reps would submit your grievances but as you want me your leader to fix things, let each of us also go and do whatever we are doing with diligence.”

The reps, he continued, “would be tasked to conscientise us all to contribute out quota to building the nation. I’m glad that you’ve done this. This is something I wanted to do but I’m glad you the youth have arise and called for it.”

This he said would have settled issues and made every agitated citizen support the leadership in handling the situation.

However, the best party communicators and government officials could do, was to ask the youth to fix themselves.

Mr. Afrifa Mensah expressed his bewilderment at those claiming the #FixTheCountry call is an agenda to propagate Alan Kyerematen against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He averred the gullibility of many followers of the NPP and NDC make them believe any shallow information they’re fed with.

“Because all their plans to bring us down failed, now they are saying we are doing Alan bid against Bawumia and because many followers of NPP [and] NDC are blockheads and gullible, they believe whatever you tell them,” he fumed.

He stated Ghanaians are “tired of the mediocre governance. 30 years ago, Dubai, China and others were nothing to write home about. But today go and see them. You do mediocre projects and send pictures to your communicators to share.”

He called on all to join the protest on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.
