One dead, another seriously injured after building collapses on three kids

An abandoned building has collapsed on three kids, killing one on the spot at Chenchenche, a suburb of Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono region.

The deceased, Listowell Yeboah, a class 5 pupil of Integrity International School was playing football with two other friends.

Reports indicate the ball fell inside the abandoned building whose roofing was wiped off by rainstorm over 4 years ago.

The owner who wanted to roof the structure again sought assistance from the Assembly who only supported with a packet of roofing sheet which wasn’t sufficient.

The building has since been abandoned and exposed to rainfall, weakening the structure.

When the ball fell in the building, two of the kids climbed through the window to pick it.

The weakened structure collapsed when the children were climbing back from the building.

The last kid who didn’t enter the building was able to escape when the structure was falling.

An eye witness, Hannah Ansuyaah, who is also mother of the deceased said she was returning from the farm with a tricycle when she saw the building fall.

“The building is behind our house so when we were passing, we saw it collapse and rushed to the scene.”

“The kid was in the dust so I asked whose son is this? I brought him out, and it was my own son. I called him, Listowell! but he couldn’t answer”, Hannah tearfully narrated.

Listowell was rushed to the Duayaw Nkwanta hospital and subsequently transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, 10 year old Pius, the second victim had his two legs broken and sent to Duayaw Nkwanta hospital.

However, the family say they have no money to foot the bills so they have taken him home and administering local treatment to him.
