Mahama rescinds decision to contest 2020 elections
The 2016 Flagbearer of the People’s National Congress, (PNC), Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama has settled not to lead the party in the 2020 elections.

He has informed the party of this decision prior to their upcoming presidential primary.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the PNC, Atik Mohammed, speaking with Angel FM’s Kofi Adomah Nwanwani, closely monitored by Ghanasonline said Dr. Mahama’s decision has not been served to the party officially.
He believes he will rescind his decision because a lot of influential people are talking to him.
Dr. Mahama, the gynaecologist obstetrician had been the flagbearer of the party since 1992 until Mahama Ayariga took the mantle from him in 2012.

However, the Electoral Commission disqualified him and couldn’t contest the 2016 election where the party went to court to seek redress.
The party contended that its flagbearer’s constitutional rights had been breached by excluding him in the December polls.
The PNC prayed the court to restore its constitutional rights and quash the decision of the EC disqualifying the leader and for him to be included in the polls.
The EC disqualified Dr. Edward Mahama and 12 other presidential aspirants from contesting the December elections after failing to meet the necessary requirements.
The Commission, in the case of Dr. Mahama, stated that two subscribers of his nominations had also subscribed for another presidential candidate, which was against the regulations set out.
The longest serving flagbearer since Ghana’s fourth Republic has finally drawn down the curtain from contesting.
