Presidency not a remedial class for correction of mistakes – Bawumia to Mahama

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, says the Presidency is not an office menial for trial and error and correction of mistakes by past leaders.

His comments is in relation to former president Mahama’s seeking of reelection after losing the 2020 polls to New Patriotic Party’s Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The National Democratic Congress’ flagbearer says he has taken retrospection of his leadership and realised his mistakes, and wants Ghanaians to give him the chance to correct those errors.

This, is what Dr. Bawumia says the Presidency is not the platform for correction of errors.

“The Presidency is not remedial classes for correction of mistakes”, Dr. Bawumia said on Tuesday October 13, on Kumasi based on Ash FM.

“It is a place for serious work and serious business”, he added.

Dr. Bawumia stressed ex president Mahama’s leadership was so poor that it left the country in bad shape, consequently leading to his defeat in the 2016 elections.

Mahama cannot be trusted

Vice President Bawumia added the NDC presidential candidate cannot be trusted because he has been consistently inconsistent in his deeds even in opposition.

“We all saw how badly he managed this country and the economy which led to many problems, such as dumsor. They could not pay for basic allowances and services.”

“Even in opposition, he hasn’t changed, and he says he will correct his mistakes.”

Dr. Bawumia supported his claims with some policy contradictions and inconsistencies saying John Mahama lacks vision, clear policies and cannot be trusted.

“Mahama is full of inconsistencies and contradictions. He says one thing today, and another tomorrow,” he relayed.

“He banned okada, now he says he will legalise it. Same person was in favour of teacher licensure exams, now he says he will cancel it. He cancelled Arabic instructors allowance, which we have restored, and now he says he supports it. Mahama said he wasn’t a magician to create jobs, now he says he will create one million jobs. When we introduced Free SHS, he said it was a hoax and 419, now he says he will expand it.”

He also spoke about Mahama’s criticism of government’s Free water and electricity for citizens at the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic in Ghana, but now promising free primary healthcare when he returns.

“Mahama said free things are not good, and he attacked us for giving Ghanaians relief with free electricity and water in the midst of COVID-19. But now, he says he will give free primary health care.”

“When he was President, he advocated for the independence of the Electoral Commission, but he is now attacking the EC.”

“Where is the consistency and where is the credibility?”

The Vice President is on a tour to in the Ashanti region.
