EndSARS Protests: Akufo-Addo calls Buhari to end impasse
Ghana’s president, Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who doubles as ECOWAS Chair has joined calls by a section of Ghanaians on social media on the ongoing impasse in Nigeria.
The President in a post on his facebook wall said he is calling on all well meaning people calling for restoration of peace and order to remain calm for dialogue to be adopted in solving the issue.
The President said he has spoken with Nigerian President, Mahamadu Buhari for commencement of a reform that will settle the two-week-old scuffle in Nigeria.
“I join all well-meaning persons in calling for calm, and the use of dialogue in resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria. I have spoken with President Buhari, who is committed to this end, and has begun the processes that will lead to reform”, the post said.
He also condemned all forms of violence being exhibited in the protest, on the part of both the security and protesters.
“Violence, be it on the part of the police or protesters, cannot be the solution”, the post read further.
President Akufo-Addo also grieved with the “families who have lost their loved ones, I express my sincere condolences, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

The #EndSARS protest begun a fortnight ago when the Special Anti Robbery Squad was caught in a video beating a citizen to death.

SARS was a special branch of the Nigerian Police Force created in 1992 to deal with crimes associated with robbery and firearms.
However, he group quickly became controversial for its links to extrajudicial killings, torture and other illegal activities.
Amnesty International has reported cases of unlawful killings and police brutality allegedly carried out by the group for years.
Many believe President Buhari has done little to curtail the ongoing impasse which incurred the wrath of Nigeria’s neighbouring citizens, Ghanaians, to add their voice to the call, imploring their president and ECOWAS Chair, to ad his voice to the matter.
Citizens from both countries are earnestly awaiting the outcome of President Akufo-Addo’s call to the leader of the most populous country on the continent, Mahamadu Buhari, on the disturbances.
