Why the NDC should not jubilate over Amidu’s resignation – Manasseh

Freelance Investigate Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should not jubilate over the resignation of the Special Prosecutor.

Mr. Awuni says in as much as contents of the letter released by the former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, indicate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not commited to fighting corruption, the NDC is not better than them.

“The NDC can use it to campaign but they should ask themselves what they did about corruption when they were in power,” he said on a bulletin followed by Ghanas Online on Angel FM.

Manasseh, however, indicated the difference between the two administrations is that, “journalists were free to report corruption under the NDC unlike the NPP era where one would be persecuted for reporting on corruption.”

His comments follow resignation of the Special Prosecutor with effect, Monday, November 16, 2020.

He said Mr. Amidu should have resigned two years ago considering the conditions that characterised his office.

According to him, there is no commitment to fighting corruption in Ghana.

“I voted for Nana Addo in 2016 because of his stance on corruption and I told Mahama this when I was launching my book and invited him.

“What’s pressing in Africa and Ghana is corruption not Free SHS. When everyone is given the power to borrow or take money to fund free SHS, Kofi you can do it. After getting all the money, it ends up in the pockets of a few because of corruption,” the 2020 Best West African Journalist averred.

Considering his stance on corruption irrespective of the party in power, the interviewer, Kofi Adomah Nwanwani asked that he takes the mantle as Special Prosecutor.

“[Laughs] I don’t even qualify Kofi,” Manasseh responded.
