Drunkards Association ranks teachers top alcohol consumers in 2020

A recent survey released by the Ghana Drunkards Association (GDA) indicate teachers are leading as professionals with the highest alcohol consumption rate in the year 2020.

President of the Association, Moses Onyah, aka Dry Bone, told Angel FM’s Kofi Adomah Nwanwani Monday, November 30, 2020, keenly followed by Ghanas Online.

Disc Jockeys (DJs), Female TV presenters, Police Officers and Fishermen placed second to fifth positions respectively according to the survey.

Also, the consumption rate of young girls between the ages of 18 and 27 has risen according to Mr. Onyah.

He was reacting to a decision by the Eastern Regional branch of the Association to close all drinking spots on Monday, December 7, to ensure more successful valid votes in the polls.

Dry Bone averred his Association is responsible for the numerous rejected ballots every election year, hence, their “Don’t Drink and Vote” campaign.

“We agree with the directive from the Eastern Region that all bars should close on December 7 and open on December 8. There has been an agreement between Regional Presidents, Bar Operators, Testing Officers, Women Organisers for the campaign so the closure of bars on election day is a step in the right direction,” he explained.

Deciding elections

With over 10.6 million members across the country, Dry Bone says they have been responsible for all election run-offs — and are also deciders in every election.

He added without the campaign, “we could go about four run-offs” in this election.

Also, he noted if the Association decide to rally their support behind a particular political party and avoid the numerous rejected ballots, they can make one party rule forever.

However, successive governments have rejected them, failing to establish an alcohol factory amongst other demands they have made from governments.

“They don’t even add us to the manifesto.
We are floating voters and we determine elections every year. Governments could establish alcohol factory for us but they don’t. These are some of the things we need,” he narrated.

He also expressed “we only look at circumstances in the election year to vote. We mostly look at the cost of alcohol” to determine whether we should retain the ruling government or vote them out.
