EC not only incompetent but very corrupt – Franklin Cudjoe

Founder and President of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, Franklin Cudjoe, has said the Electoral Commission (EC) is not only “incompetent but very corrupt” as well.

His comments follow the Commission’s admission of some discrepancies in its figures after declaration of the election results.

In a facebook post sighted by Ghanas Online on Mr. Cudjoe’s wall, it says the ruling New Patriotic Party’s call to contest the results of some five constituencies is in the right direction, considering the errors coming from the EC’s quarters after declaring the election results.

“Finally I agree with the NPP when it says it will contest the results of five constituencies. The EC hasn’t been helpful,” he posted.

The post furthered he “really couldn’t believe that the EC kept changing figures on its website after admitting making basic math errors. I have now concluded that is not only incompetent, it is very corrupt!!”

A day after the declaration of the results of the presidential polls, the Commission said it overstated the total valid votes cast during the announcement by its Chair, Jean Mensa.

The error, according to the EC did not affect the percentage of valid votes obtained by the candidates and does not invalidate the outcome.

Also, the Commission’s Director of Electoral Services, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, according to a tweet by JoyNews on Friday, said their Eastern Regional Director, did not add the results of Asuogyaman during the collation of results, and has subsequently been added to reflect the true outcome from the region.

These latest developments seem to cast doubts on the minds of many who suspect the electoral verdict has been compromised.

Aside from the NPP’s intentions to contest the five seats, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have also rejected the results, saying it was a stolen verdict for the NPP.

They allege the EC has robbed them of 140 parliamentary seats won, aside truncating results to favour President Akufo-Addo and the NPP.

Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, in a press briefing Thursday said he’s “unwilling to accept a fictionalised results from a flawed election,” and they [NDC] will “take all legitimate steps to reverse the travesty of justice.”
