Driver knocks 16-year-old boy, abandons him to die in the bush

A 16-year-old boy, Emmanuel Anim-Appau, has met his untimely death after a vehicle knocked and left him to die in a bush on the roadside on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

Kofi Tsibu, as he is called by many, was returning from her elder sister’s place from Assin Odumase to Assin Sibinso, all in the Assin South District of the Central Region where he lived with the father.

According to the father, Peter Anim-Appau, Kofi normally visits the sister after school almost on a daily basis since the distance between the two towns is barely a kilometre walk.

On the fateful Thursday, he left home around 3pm after school to the sister’s place and did not return.

But the sister, Sarah Anim-Appau, said she escorted him around 6:30pm and expected him to be home by 7pm as he had always done.

Upon several calls by the father to the sister but to no avail, the father, Mr. Anim-Appau, said he felt he had spent the night with the sister and proceeded to her place early in the morning to get him for school to write his final paper as Friday, December 18, was their vacation day.

Whilst on his way, he says he saw a crowd at the spot where the incident happened on the Cape Coast – Kumasi highway and found his son dead when he got to the scene.

“When I was going I saw some young boys and girls standing on the roadside pointing to the bush. I didn’t know what was going on so I decided to also have a look at what they were pointing at. Then I saw my son lying dead in the bush. I told them this is my son because none of those around seemed to recognise him. Then I asked them, ‘don’t you know my son, Kofi Tsibu?’ I collapsed and don’t know how I regained conscious,” the father narrated.

Meanwhile, the police suspect the vehicle might be a taxi looking at the driving mirror that was found at the scene.

They also suspect the driver reversed after knocking him down and sped off when he realised the boy might not survive the accident.

Eye witnesses also indicate the boy struggled in the bush looking at how the weeds had leveled and even tried raising a hand in case someone could find him but to no avail.

His remains has since been deposited at the Abura Dunkwa Government Hospital pending investigations.

The driver has still not been found.

Emmanuel was the only son amongst six siblings to the mother.
