Covid-19: Zoomlion exhibits state-of-the-art disinfection equipments ahead of reopening of schools

The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) led by Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) has exhibited its readiness to aid government’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the Ministry of Information press briefing at the Independence Square in Accra Monday, January 4, 2021, ZGL displayed its newly acquired state-of-the-art accoutrement to be used for disinfection of all schools ahead of their resumption.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah speaking at the event disclosed “there would be a number of engagements throughout the week to enlighten the public on what government has put in place regarding the reopening of schools”, two of which will take place this week.

Of the two activities being undertaken this week, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah averred the Ministry of Education will explain the modus being adopted in ensuring reopening and safety of students in schools, aside the showcasing of equipment by the Ministry of Water and Sanitation and its partners, Zoomlion.

Managing Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Gloria Anti, on her part announced some of the acquired tools that were displayed in conjunction with the Pest and Vector Control Association of Ghana.

“…80 Electrostatic foggers, 50 Automasiers, over 4,000 motorised spraying machines, 2,700 knapsack spraying machines, 20 handheld thermal foggers, 30 drones and other related equipments have been acquired for the exercise,” she said.

Also, the Sanitation giant boasted of over 7,000 well trained staff by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research who pivot the exercise on the grounds.

She also lauded the collaborative efforts between Government of Ghana and its partners in curbing the pandemic last year, which earned Ghana an applause from its peers in Africa.

Mrs. Anti also extoled the various Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies for their continuous support over the period the exercise was taken to their respective assemblies.

The chemicals that are used for the disinfection according to Mrs. Anti, are certified by the World Health Organisation with application guidance from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, making it the most effective for the environment.

Education Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh reiterated President Akufo-Addo’s address yesterday, talking about “reopening of schools, and asked that all schools are disinfected” before the second week where the date dues.

He prayed “our collaboration with Zoomlion will get all schools disinfected within the two weeks period before students resume.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaa, lauded the ESPA collaboration with government, led by its leader, Zoomlion, in disinfecting the nation to rid off Covid-19 from the system.

“We commend Zoomlion for investing heavily in equipment for the exercise,” she extoled.

Mrs. Dapaa further noted “what couldn’t be achieved as a country in ten years have been achieved due to the pragmatic measures put up by government within the a short period.

“We have began the recycling exercise at all 16 regions, evacuation of dumpsites for the first time across the country,” amongst other sanitation arrangements that erased other airborne infections which hitherto manifested annually.

Also speaking at the event was the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye who indicated the Greater Accra region contains 52% of the current active cases in the country.

Five regions according to Dr. Aboagye have less than 10 active cases each, whilst five others have no active cases.

Since the reopening of the Kotoka International Airport, 741 cases have been recorded with no deaths.

Furthermore, he noted every Senior High School has been marked with a health facility, whereas the medical screening of all SHS students would be institutionalised and repeated every year.

Dr. Kumah-Aboagye additionally clarified there would be provision of masks, institutionalisation of water facilities for washing of hands and continue disinfection of all schools to make them safer for students.

He let alone stated there would be entertainment education programmes for children from kindergarten to lower primary to ensure their safety is assured.
