Western Region: TTU, Valley View, GIMPA, others get disinfected ahead of reopening

Tertiary institutions in the Western Region have received their share of the fourth phase of nationwide disinfection today, Thursday, January 7, 2021.

The Takoradi Technical University (TTU), Valley View University, Ghana Technology University and GIMPA among others institutions are those benefiting from the exercise.

The activity is in connection with President Akufo-Addo’s quest to get schools across the country disinfected before resumption of academic activities, to help curb the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lecture halls, cafeterias, JCRs, recreational centres, places of convenience and all relevant places the students come into contact with.

Deputy Registrar of the TTU, Kenneth Boateng, told the media the students are already aware of the virus and the protocols they need to observe when they resume.

The continuing students according to the Registrar have already been given their share of the Personal Protective Equipments provided by government, awaiting the freshers to receive theirs.

He said about 5,000 first years are expected to join the continue students.

Accommodating the students with the social distancing protocol, he noted, would not be a problem since they have three campuses aside one new block they have constructed that can contain many of the students during lectures.

Also, Mr. Boateng indicated they have enough sanitisers and masks for the students but expecting the government to top up with the remaining PPEs.

Meanwhile, Western Regional General Manager of Zoomlion, Alhaji Abdulai Abdullah, indicated his outfit’s “intention is to ensure that as the students come in, they move into a very serene environment devoid of Covid.”

Mr. Abdullah added the exercise would be carried out intermittently to ensure the campuses are always disinfected.

He said the exercise is being undertaken in eight (8) tertiary institutions across the Western region.

Having disinfected the facilities, Mr. Abdullah advised for continual application of the preventive protocols for absolute protection.

He believes when these measures are dully adhered to, the number of cases will come down and subsequently eradicate the virus from the system.
