Why Captain Smart has been missing on air since February ending
Host of Angel FM’s Morning Show, Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ, Captain Smart, has undergone a successful back surgery at a private facility at East Legon, Accra.
The vociferous presenter has been battling this back pain for some years now, until it became severe the past few weeks.
The reason he has not been on air almost the whole of March.
The surgical operation which was carried at the early hours of Thursday, March 11, 2021, took exactly 2 hours 13 minutes to complete.
A team of four surgeons, led by a female France-based Ghanaian doctor, Dr. Veronica Ohenewaa Tuffour, performed the surgery.
Names of the other three surgeons were given as Drs. Cudjoe, Lamptey and Franklin.
There are rumours that the spinal problem may be from the family since his uncle, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, suffered same ailment and undertook a similar operation in February 2012.
President Kufuor’s two-hour long operation was carried out by a team of doctors led by Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, the internationally acclaimed spinal surgeon and his team from The Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine Clinic in Accra.
Other core members of the surgical team were Dr Harry Akoto, neurosurgeon, Dr Lawrence Sereboe, director of the Cardiothoracic Unit with their teams of nurses and paramedics from the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The team of anaesthetists comprised Dr Eugenia Lamptey, Head, Department of Anaesthesia at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Irene Wulff, Dr Kotei, and Dr Ofosu-Appiah, all of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
