Deploy the military to help curb the filth in Accra – Sanitation Minister told

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has been advised to seek the services of the military to ameliorate the growing filth engulfing the capital city, Accra.

Speaking on “Anadwo Gya” on Smart TV, Captain Smart intimated that the filth in Accra has left the city with stench, and needed drastic measures to be taken, necessitating the involvement of the military to bring finality to the aged fought menace.

He noted that, the poor planning and drainage system in Accra has caused several damages, including washing away the certificate of former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Sheik I.C Quaye, at Alajo.

Flooding has taken away many lives, including the infamous June 3 disaster in Accra, and destroyed properties worth millions of cedis due to poor drainage system in the capital.

Mr. Smart added that, the upcoming rainy season will only add up to the ritual disasters faced by residents annually pending failed promises by state authorities to better the drainage system in Accra.

He opined the authorities don’t suffer the fate of the ordinary citizens due to the luxury they enjoy in their vehicles.

“We are entering the rainy season and as usual, the rain will sweep away people. Accra, the capital city stinks badly but the Ministers don’t see it because they have AC (Air Condition) in their cars so they don’t feel it”

“Madam Abena Dapaah, deploy the military to help keep the city clean, so that we can rid of this filth in Accra,” he said.

Mr. Smart further alleged “sanitation in Accra is poor because those who come and pick up the garbage are not paid.”

He bemoaned the lackadaisical approach adopted by authorities in fixing the city, calling on the youth to always demand for accountability.
