Minority’s approach on Sputnik V procurement an undermining of Bagbin’s integrity – Ayew Afriyie
Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Health, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie has described the Minority’s approach on the procurement of Sputnik V vaccines as an undermining of the integrity of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin.
Dr. Afriyie who who was speaking on JN Today with a keen monitoring by Ghanasonline.com indicated even though it is within the remit of the law for the Minority to probe the issue, running to the media without recourse to parliamentary proceedings is an undermining of the Speaker’s integrity.
He explained that, instead of organising press conference to cast allegations, they should have gone to the “Speaker they brought themselves for us to vote for.”
The Effiduase-Asokore legislator is also of the view that, the Minority could have proffered solutions rather than the medium they adopted.
“I’m surprised they haven’t invited the Ministry to provide documents for probe. They are undermining the integrity of the Speaker,” he expressed.
He added that the Minority’s claim of having persons who could provide the vaccines at a lesser cost without presenting anybody is an act of “giving the dog a bad name to hang it.”
Dr. Afriyie noted further that the best the Minority could do is to support the solution being deployed to handle the pandemic and call for an after-probe than to devise this tactic which could be detrimental to the fight against the pandemic.
“When there is fire in your property, you look at the effort the Fire Service can adopt to quench it before interrogating the cost,” he said.
