Franklin Cudjoe questions Ghana’s Peace Index rank after murder of social media activist

Founder of policy think tank, IMANI-Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has questioned Ghana’s position on the Peace Index report following the murder of social media activist, Ibrahim Anyass Mohammed, a.k.a. Kaaka.

In a social media post sighted by Ghanasonline.com, Mr. Cudjoe noted the murder of Kaaka is a direct contradiction of Ghana’s enviable position on the latest Peace Index report.

The development he believes does not auger well for a country that touts itself as a beacon of democracy on the continent.

He condemned the lawless act, praying that the state should have no hand in it.

“Thought we just jubilated over Ghana’s favourable ranking on the Peace Index. Killing and maiming innocent protestors is indicative of lawlessness. Hope these are not state-sponsored!,” the post read.

Ghana’s rank on Peace Index

Barely a week ago, Ghana ranked second in Africa on the Peace Index report released by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

After scoring 1.715 which represents a two point move upwards from the previous Global Peace Index report, Ghana ranked 38th out of 163 countries reviewed globally.

#FixTheCountry activist murdered

Meanwhile, a social media activist at Ejura Sekyedumase in the Ashanti Region was gruesomely murdered for campaigning for authorities to #FixTheCountry.

His death, which pushed the irate youth of the community on rampage led to the loss of two lives with nine (9) others in critical condition, after the military clashed with them and shot into the protesting crowd Tuesday morning.

The angry youth said they’re ready to sacrifice their lives until justice is served late Kaaka who left behind a wife and six (6) children.

The youth stormed the police station on Tuesday morning to inquire about the extent of investigations regarding the murder of their colleague, stressing that they want the Police to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators to book.

Although the Police told them they have arrested two people in connection with the crime, the agitated protestors said it was just a façade.

The youth described the deceased as a crusader for the community, who speaks truth to power and requests for developmental projects for the area.

Thus, they cannot fathom why he was attacked and murdered in such a manner.
Pressing home their demand for justice, the youth hit the streets and were met by Military and the Police personnel.

Four soldiers were seen moving in a horizontal line with a Police water cannon charging on the protestors.

Initially, the Military started shooting into the sky. But at some point, when the protesters charged, the Military personnel started shooting into the crowd.

Almost a dozen were hit, with two dying and nine in critical condition.
