Next IGP: How Dampare, Kofi Boakye’s professionalism is giving Akufo-Addo headache – Captain Smart

Two of the most qualified COPs to assume the role of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) are George Akuffo Dampare and Nathan Kofi Boakye.

But the uncertainty of their political affiliation and mode of discharging their duties has left the President, Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with a headache.

According to host of the Smart Show on Smart TV, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is confused on whom to appoint since they cannot identify any of the two COPs as a staunch member of the NPP.

“Dampare and Kofi Boakye have refused to indulge in party politics so the government is confused that’s why Oppong-Boanuh is still on contract,” he alleged.

Mr. Smart has alleged that before someone is appointed as IGP, one of the criteria is to check the political background of the individual rather than the competences he/she exudes.

Citing the confrontation between the Mahama led administration and COP Adu Poku as an example, he noted the officer (COP Adu Poku), after his third meeting with the powers that be, told the then administration he will deal with whoever falls foul to the law irrespective of the political background.

This, Captain Smart claims, led to the halting of a fourth meeting at the Flagstaff House, leading to a background check that ‘disqualified’ him because he vouched not to become a poodle for the then NDC government. It was alleged that since he served as Ashanti Regional Commander under John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration, he is obviously affiliated with the NPP, which led to the appointment of John Kudalor as IGP.

His comments follow the clearance given by the police for the NDC youth to carry out their ‘Walk for Justice’ march Tuesday, July 6, 2021.

He says the march is an orchestration by two women from the NPP and NDC to deliberately tag some #FixTheCountry protesters who would be identified during the NDC youth wing march. He therefore advised that #FixTheCountry organisers stay out of the Walk for Justice march.

“FixTheCountry protestors should stay off the NDC demo because they’ll create artificial disturbance and lash you,” he advised.

He indicated “their plan is to deploy both police and military personnel who are NPP and NDC standby party men in uniform. “Each of them have 2000 personnel each in the military and 2000 in the police so when the NPP as a party wants to do an operation, they know the NPP police and military to use and vice versa.”

He buttressed his allegations with the resignation of the IGP’s secretary to contest Member of Parliament on the ticket of the NDC.

In the midst of the highly transmissible Delta variant of the Covid-19, the IGP says they’ve had a meeting with the NDC youth to be able to comply with all the rules. The clearance is what Captain Smart says is a ploy, considering the Ghana Police Service’s reaction when organisers of the #FixTheCountry informed them of their protest.

COP George Akuffo Dampare is currently the Director-General in charge of administration whilst Nathan Kofi Boakye is the Director-General in charge of Legal and Prosecution at the Ghana Police Service.

Meanwhile, Mr. Smart also revealed some party big wigs are rooting for Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, who is currently the Director-General in charge of Welfare of the Ghana Police Service, and former head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

But he further alleges the presidency is not buying the offer because Maame Yaa has too much been exposed as a member of the NPP that her appointment will get people talking.
