Why haven’t you arrested John Mahama? – Captain Smart asks Akufo-Addo
President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been asked why he hasn’t arrested John Dramani Mahama, the former president, if he indulged in corrupt practices during his tenure of office as claimed.
Captain Smart, who made the call said he believes the president has been unable to do so because he is surrounded by corrupt people himself.
His comment follows the trial of former South African president, Jacob Zuma, and comments made by president Akufo-Addo during the commissioning of the 4-tier Pokuase interchange.
He says the trial of Zuma has resulted in outrage amongst a section of the youth because they believe he is not the only person complicit in the crimes he’s being tried for, therefore calling on the government to treat others same.
Captain Smart says equally in Ghana, people are tagged with corruption but cannot be arrested and tried.
At the commissioning of the Pokuase interchange, the President noted he has used a little above what Mahama used to construct just one interchange to construct three, therefore making him a better protector of the public purse.
But Mr. Smart, speaking on the YouTube live streamed show on Smart TV said, that statement from president Akufo-Addo means the former President’s leadership was shrouded with corruption and must hence, be apprehended and tried.
“If you claim the money you used for three interchanges was used for just one by John Mahama, why aren’t you arresting him?,” he quizzed.
He, however, alleged the President has failed to do so because he is surrounded by corrupt people, the reason his “I’m not corrupt” mantra has faded in the skies.
Citing incidents of corruption that have gone unpunished, he expressed shock over why Tsatsu Tsikata, a former GNPC boss went to prison for negligence whilst others involved in similar offences are walking free.
“Tsatsu went to prison because of negligence so why wasn’t Agambire arrested for those trees that cost Ghana GHC32 million”
“Only two out of the 16 million pieces of trees he planted survived because they did that during the harmattan in the north. Later the audit showed some were pawpaw”
“Mr. Duku gave GHc1 million for pedicure and manicure in 2015 yet nothing was done to him,” he revealed.
