‘This experiment of democracy must end’ – Ghana youth told
A leading member of the #FixTheCountry protest, Arimiyaw Wusama, has spelt out the need to end Ghana’s democracy which is on experimental trail.
He says the Constitution which is the fulcrum of Ghana’s system of governance –democracy –has outlived its uselessness, serving a meagre amount of the population, leaving the masses in tattered penury.
He is calling on the youth of the country to join forces on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, to revolutionise the status quo with the #FixTheCountry demonstration.
On the YouTube live-streamed Smart Show on Smart TV, Mr. Wusama called on the youth to support the call until Ghana is restored to where it rightfully belongs.
“We must end this experiment of democracy. This means we must abolish this Constitution [PNDC Law 1992] that serves only Article 71 holders. That is why we must all meet at the Obra Spot this coming Wednesday, to present our grievances to the authority,” he charged.
Speaking further, he revealed the #FixTheCountry protest is a follow-up to events that occurred in different generations, but this time, to permanently abate the suffering that has engulfed Ghanaians over the years.
“Every generation have their vehicle. Rawlings said ‘Let the blood flow’ Akufo-Addo said ‘Kumepreko’ in their days but in our time, we are not calling for blood to flow or kill us instantly. That’s why we’re saying #FixTheCountry in our time,” he espoused.
Meanwhile, a co-leading member, Nii Ayi Opare, speaking on the same show cautioned the youth not to be swayed with tokenism –deceiving the public with a meagre attempt on a bigger issue to suggest the challenge is under control –but to hold the authority accountable until their needs are met.
He explained “if 1 million people need jobs, they can’t pick 1000 to work and give them stipend to deceive us that they’re solving the problem” adding that, “until all of us is free, none of us is free.”
The incessant crimes in the country according to Nii Ayi is as a result of poor standard of living which must be averted.
“Crime in itself is a product of poverty,” he stated.
