Election 2016: Why Akufo-Addo’s campaign platform collapsed – Captain Smart reveals

In the heat of the 2016 electioneering campaign, then candidate Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign platform collapsed at Jackson Park in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

After eventually winning the polls and nearing a year in his second term in office, controversial broadcaster, Captain Smart, has revealed what caused that mishap.

On the Wednesday, August 25, 2021 edition of the YouTube live-streamed Smart Show on Smart TV, Captain Smart indicated the entire programme was to make and reveal controversies.

After stating the Bible and Qur’an are the cause of Africa’s woes; fasting and prayers being the reason people can’t think ahead and Ghana practicing schooling instead of education, he added that, a ransom GH₵12,000.00 was paid someone to execute the menace that befell Akufo-Addo at Jackson Park.

“In 2016, Nana Addo’s campaign platform collapsed at Jackson Park in Kumasi. It wasn’t for nothing. An NPP person paid the guy GH₵12,000.00 to ensure the platform collapses,” he stated authoritatively.

He revealed that an initial GH₵10k was given before “he collected the remaining GH₵2000.00 at Central Market, in front of Owner Services.”

He disclosed that, “there is a lady called Hajia Suleman who stays at Kumasi Aboabo, who went to Mecca in 2006 –that was her first time. She told a man in Kumasi, Nana Osam Duodu, a native of Anomabu –who had a girlfriend at Nhyiaeso. That girlfriend of Nana Osam Duodu was the one who carried the cheque to withdraw the GH₵10,000.00 which was paid to the guy, before she added the remaining GH₵2,000.00 to him in front of Owner Services.”

He said after sensing the danger that fateful day, he asked his former producer at Otec FM, one Alex Popro Nkansah, to show him whom he (Captain Smart) can talk to. But the party leader he approached discarded the ‘spiritual’ intel, leading to the collapse of the platform.

Captain Smart explained further that, the reason Ghanaians are suffering is because of the intra politics in the NPP and NDC, –which affect their performance when they are voted into power.

“If a husband and a wife keep fighting, it is the children that suffer. There is internal struggle within both the NPP and NDC and whenever they win power, it can’t be to the benefit of the nation.

Whatever NPP and NDC are doing, he noted, “is politically artificial. Before election, it looks so bright and pure but reveal their true colour after wining power.”
