Elizabeth Sackey to be named first female Accra Mayor?

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has settled on banker, economist, and a former legislator for Okaikwei North, Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey as the new Mayor for Accra.

According to our sources, even though the committee that worked on the selection process settled on Nii Adjei Sowah, the incumbent, but the President chose the former MP.

If approved, the former legislator would be Accra’s first female Mayor.

She has been described as an efficient and tactical politician by her admirers.

She was first elected into parliament to represent the Okaikwei North constituency in the December 2004 polls.

She represented the constituency again in the 5th parliament of Ghana following her re-election in December 2008.

Mrs. Sackey also contested and won the 2012 December polls on the ticket of the elephant family.

Prior to becoming a Member of Parliament, she worked as a Chief Clerk at the Ghana Commercial Bank.

She is married with four children, a Christian and a staunch member of the Church of Pentecost, who has served as a deaconess for almost two decades.
