MMDCEs nominees list: ChaLoG calls for probe into leakage before official announcement

The Chamber of Local Government (ChaLoG), is calling on President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency mount an investigation into the leakage of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) list before the official announcement was made.

The organisation believes the public’s access to the list prior to the official announcement is the cause of the protests across various areas of the country.

It can be recalled that, a list of the MMDCEs circulated on all social media platforms before the Local Government Minister, Dan Kwaku Botwe, made the official announcement.

However, the Local Government Ministry on Sunday September 19, 2021 announced the official list of nominees.

Speaking on the agitations that has ensued after release of the official list, President of ChaLoG, Dr Richard Fiadomor is of the view that the ongoing rancour is as a result of the list leaking before the official announcement, making investigations into it paramount.

“Under normal circumstances the reaction should have come after the report has been made public. So President Akufo-Addo must investigate whoever brought the report out because that may have fueled the pockets of violence we are seeing now” he told Berla Mundi on TV3’s morning show, “New Day”.

Meanwhile, Chereponi, Odododiodo, Bono East, Tema Central, Nkoranza and some districts in parts of the country have experienced tensions among some residents who felt dissapointed with the list of nominees.
