‘Akans aren’t more human than Voltarians and other tribes’ – Captain Smart jabs Akufo-Addo over E-Block comments

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s response to the paramount chief of Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Adzonu-Gaga Amenya Fiti V on his request to complete the E-Block in his paramountcy has received variant reactions.

Whilst others are accusing Kokrokoo host, Kwame Sefa Kayi, for not putting the chief’s request properly to the president, others believe Nana Addo disrespected the chief with how he reacted to the issue.

One of such persons is Onua TV/FM’s ‘Maakye’ host, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, who says “the president has goofed big time.”

On Thursday, October 21, president Akufo-Addo as part of his tour in the Greater Accra region granted an interview on Peace FM where he told the Aflao chief to “complete” the abandoned E-block Community Day Senior High School in the area himself if he is frustrated about the delay.

The President amidst laughter, quizzed, “Is he the one going to give the Minister of Education ultimatum?”

The school, built during the Mahama administration is almost 90 per cent complete. It has some 26 classrooms and five departments, including a science block but has stalled since 2016.

Advancing his stance on what he calls the “bitter truth”, Captain Smart, as he is known in the media space, berated how President Akufo-Addo responded to the Aflao chief, juxtaposing the comments to his apology to the people of Cape Coast on the harbour promise.

“The Akans in this country should stop the foolishness. Akans are gradually misbehaving because we feel we have the numbers. Why apologise to the people of Cape Coast and disrespect the Aflao chief?

“Would you have said same if Otumfuo had asked you to expedite work on the Afari Military Hospital? Your mode of addressing the issue shows disrespect to the chief. We Akans are not more human than Voltarians and the other tribes in Ghana. It is the same blood that runs through us.”

“Akufo-Addo’s demeanour and words are so disrespectful to the highest order. Nana Addo, you got it totally wrong. For those saying he was joking, a president doesn’t joke on national television with a paramount chief and even if it was a joke, that was more insulting,” he poured out Friday, October 22, 2021.

He said the Okyenhene similarly gave then president Mahama an ultimatum and sees nothing wrong with Torgbui Fiti’s request.

“Okyenhene told Mahama he was lasing his boots for a demonstration and gave him three months ultimatum to come and fix his roads. Your Excellency, you goofed big time,” he added.

He said he wouldn’t have countenanced such comments from the president if he was in Kwame’s shoes but gave him the benefit of the doubt because he assumes he doesn’t understand Twi.

“Those of you insulting Kwame should stop because he asked the question well but it is the president who didn’t answer it well. If I was Kwame, I would have made him apologise or sack him from my show and I’m still assuming Senior (Sefa Kayi) doesn’t understand Twi,” Captain Smart angrily expressed.
