‘Don’t make such pronouncements again else…’ – Captain Smart dares Akufo-Addo

The vociferous host of ‘Maakye’ on Onua TV/FM, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, has dared the president of the Republic not to tout himself as an anti-corruption crusader in order not to invite trouble.

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last week said his government has taken the boldest steps against corruption since Ghana’s independence and has subsequently protected the public purse than any other administration.

He says allegations of wanton dissipation of public funds are untrue and no one can prove such claims against his government.

Speaking at an anti-corruption conference in Accra, President Akufo-Addo said his government has made significant investment in all aspects of the economy than all other presidents in the Fourth Republic.

He also cited various instances where his government has dealt with cases of corruption involving appointees under his government, including the case of the PPA boss, Adjenim Boateng Adjei.

He, however, noted he, as President was not in the best position to convict any person accused of wrongdoing or engaging in acts of corruption. “That is the job of the courts,” he said.

But during his rants Monday, December 13, 2021, Captain Smart, as he is also known, dared the President not to blow his horn with such anti-corruption accolades.

Mr. Smart says there are numerous scandals that have emerged under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, as well as loans taken without serving their intended purpose which makes his claim of not dissipating public funds and being an anti-corruption crusader worrying.

“Don’t make such pronouncements again else there would be trouble in Ghana. PDS, the dirty oil (contaminated fuel) your daughters sold, the loan you took for the hospitals, where is the money? Have you dug the grounds for the hospitals? And you want to tell us you have protected the public purse?,” he expressed.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Integrity Initiative has said there is no evidence to substantiate the President’s claims on taking the boldest steps against corruption since the menace is on ascendancy despite the supposed moves by the Akufo-Addo led administration.
