Man chops off another’s hand over Six Ghana Cedis
A young man has chopped off the wrist of another completely over Six Ghana Cedis at Ejisu Akronwi in the Ashanti region.
The culprit, whose name was given as Samuel lent the victim, Alex, GHC 6.00 on their way to work and promised to pay later after providing his phone as collateral.
According to a sister of the victim, Linda Appiah, the two are friends who have been engaging in casual labour over the years.
“When they were going to work, Alex didn’t have money to buy food so he borrowed GHC 6.00 from Samuel to buy food. Samuel took his phone so that he gives it back to him because he doubted Alex would pay. After work, Samuel left earlier and when Alex paid him later with a 50 cedis note, he said he didn’t have change. Alex asked for his phone so that he pays the money when he changes the 50 cedis denomination. That began the scuffle between them”, Linda narrated on Angel FM’s evening bulletin.

How it happened
She adds that Samuel returned to Alex’s house to complain to the mother that Alex fingered his eye during their brawl which the woman settled.
However, Ms. Appiah furthered Samuel returned another day and asked of Alex with the pretence that all was well between them.
She said when he was told of Alex’s whereabout, he went to exchange words with him and the two got separated by those around.
Ms Appiah explained that when even though people saw Samuel with a knife, murmuring his intent to kill Alex, there was no means to reach him [Alex] since his phone had been with Samuel.

Meanwhile, Linda added “Samuel drew a machete he was hiding in his dress to cut my brother. So someone shouted for Alex to stay alert and in his attempt to shield the cutlass off his head, it chopped off the wrist off from the hand.”
“Samuel bragged after the incident that Alex was lucky because his intent was to chop off his head from the body. Then he kept boasting on his way home that he has set a record as promised but nobody knew what he had done since the incident happened at a different scene”, she stated.
Samuel has since fled and Alex is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
Doctors have indicated the hand cannot be fixed and Alex will remain amputated.
