24-year-old woman arrested for aborting seven month old baby
The Assin North District Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old woman for aborting her seven month old baby.
Assin North District Police Commander, DSP Isaac Tetteh, speaking with Angel FM’s Kofi Adomah Nwanwani, said the lady, Vida Adepa, was impregnated by a man in Accra whilst working as a bar attendant.
According to him, Vida says the man abandoned her and the hard conditions of life made her relocate to Assin Praso in the Central Region, where the sister lives.
He said the Assemblyman of Assin Praso electoral area reported the incident to the command around 5:40 pm on Sunday, July 19, 2020.

DSP Tetteh said Vida “took some herbal mixture to induce the baby out prematurely when she realised she cannot take care of the unborn baby.”
The case is being prepared for the appropriate quarters within the police service to handle.
“We are preparing a docket to hand over the issue to the Assin Fosu Divisional DOVVSU since they’re the appropriate unit to handle such cases”, he said.
DSP Tetteh added Vida “will be charged with abortion because unless a medical doctor detects a pregnancy can have health implications on either a mother or a child, abortion is illegal in Ghana.”
He reiterated one cannot abort a baby on the basis of economic hardship but rather on medical conditions and must be carried out by a professional medic.
