Jospong, gov’t partnership will create 10,000 jobs – Siaw Agyepong

Jospong Group of Company’s Executive Chair, Joseph Siaw Agyepong, has disclosed his outfit’s merger with government will secure about 10,000 jobs for people across the country.

Mr. Siaw Agyepong says 14 out of the 16 Compost and Recycling plants being established across the regions will provide 75 direct and 250 indirect jobs.

However, the one in Ashanti region, which is the largest solid waste treatment plant on the continent, will provide 800 direct jobs and 2,300 indirectly.

He made the revelation at Kperisi, a community in Wa, when he joined President Akufo-Addo to cut sod for the Upper West Solid Waste Treatment Plant.

“Looking at the value of these compost plants, by the end of today, the workforce which His Excellency has created through this project alone is 5,700.
Starting from Accra, this is number 8 of the sods and each one creating 250 indirect jobs and this one here will create 75 direct jobs immediately we start today and 250 indirect jobs.
The one we commissioned in Kumasi is creating 800 and indirect 2,300.
So as at today, it’s 5,700 left with the ones we are yet to get the sods cut. So by the time we complete all the 16, we are talking about 10,000 workforce”, Mr. Siaw Agyepong enumerated.

He thanked the president for giving Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, where he is also the CEO the opportunity, to be part of the construction of the compost and recycling plants across the regions.

The leader of the largest waste management organization in West Africa also indicated waste is health “so when you create the environment for people to live in good health, then you have been able to solve a problem.”

On his part, President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lauded the government Jospong partnership, saying it’s PPP at its best.

He called on all Ghanaians to rally behind any of such partnerships for Ghana’s development.

“I’m saying to all people in the private sector and others in our public sector that whenever this partnership can be forged between a performing private sector and a performing public sector entity, it would be to the good of our country and we should welcome it, encourage it and promote it”, he implored.

The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, disclosed that the Upper West generates 521 tonnes of solid waste daily.

This, she said will provide the source of raw materials for the plant after completion.
