Four arrested in connection with plot to kill Minister

The Agona Swedru Divisional Police command has arrested four armed men allegedly hired to kill the Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Mamle Morrison.

The four were among a group of five where one absconded upon seeing the police.

They were lodging at Elohim Hotel at Agona Swedru in the Central region, plotting how to execute their task when the police pounced on them.

Sources within the Regional Police Command said the four mentioned the name of the Natioanl Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Paul Ofori Amoah, as the person that brought them to the area.

Mr. Ofori Amoah was subsequently questioned Saturday evening.

Notwithstanding the fact that Mr. Amoah admitted knowing the suspects, he flatly denied claims that they were plottibg to kill the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Police report gave the names of the four suspects as Saddick Abubakar, Dauda Fatua, Isaac Addea and Gordon Kunya.

They were found with a knife, machete and two cheques in the sum of GHC5000.00 each.

According to the report, the four have been “detained and exhibits retained for further action”.

This comes barely a week after one legislator, Ekow Quansah Hayford, was killed on a return trip from his campaign in his constituency, Mfantseman.
