We are sinking, come and rescue us – Multimedia begs Captain Smart comeback

Information reaching this portal indicate management of the Multimedia Group Limited (MGL), owners of Adom FM, are chasing Captain Smart to return.

According to our sources, the MGL management say the Adom Brand, especially Dwaso Nsɛm, which hitherto was the cash cow of the station is collapsing, leading to reduced audience share and dwindling in listenership.

Blessed Godsbrain Smart, the then host of then flagship morning show, Dwaso Nsɛm, left the MGL and joined Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) where he is Director of Operations aside being host of the morning show, Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ.

Before his exit, Chief Jerry Forson, who has mimicked Captain Smart’s style, was poached from Accra FM to co-host Dwaso Nsɛm with Captain Smart. But after the exit of Smart, it has become difficult to fill the vacuum he left.

After rebranding Angel FM with other seasoned media personnel, the MGL is willing to offer anything the “I love radio” man is ready to demand.

Our sources say aside his usual monthly salary, MGL is ready to offer Captain Smart a brand new Land Cruiser for himself and another for his wife. A monthly allowance as well as weekly stipend for Fabɛwɔso are all part of the deal the media giant is putting on the table for Mr. Smart, with other juicy offers our source couldn’t disclose.

A very influential member at the top hierarchy of the company conveyed a meeting between himself and the Fabɛwɔso man in the course of the week, after attempts to lure him back through other influential people outside the MGL failed.

The Angel FM Director of Operations is yet to respond to the offer the MGL has placed before him, either in the affirmative or otherwise.

The search for Vim Lady

Meanwhile, our sources also indicate a delegation has been sent to Despite Media to convince former news editor and anchor, Afia Pokuaa aka Vim Lady to return to the newsroom.

After MGL management ousted former co-editor of the newsroom, Samuel Nii Narku Dowuona, by forcing him to resign, Afia Pokuaa also left when management failed to resolve some issues that had piled over the years between them.

Afia Pokuaa, who is now a Programmes Manager at Despite media is equally yet to respond to the offer before her.

Vim Lady’s offer comes after Akwasi Agyemang, a dismissed editor from the Despite Group and a friend to some senior MGL Human Resource managers, was brought to steer affairs of the Newsroom after the two editors exited but failed to live up to the standards.

Consolidating the remaining stars

Nonetheless, the Adom Brands of the MGL has undertaken some internal exercise to keep the few known names left after the exodus of stars hit them in 2019/20.

Salaries of on-air persons like Jerry Justice, host of Ofiekwanso has been appreciated when management heard he wanted to leave.

Newscasters like Nana Osei Ampofo Adjei, Obiri Yeboah Fɛntɛmfrɛm, and Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom have also had their salaries increased.

Some interns who had worked with Adom FM and TV for over half a decade without salaries have also been regularised after dismissing some of them without any compensation.

Our sources further indicate some of these interns who worked for the company and got sacked without offer of employment or any compensation are planning to jointly sue Multimedia as their conduct is a direct contradiction of what the labour law stipulates.

With the accolade of the “biggest media brand in Ghana”, the MGL has never given a damn about their staff, surviving on past glories until the exit of Captain Smart and Afia Pokuaa crippled them.

Also, many top media personnel who leave the company return, making them feel they are irresistible in the industry, until the last mass exits took place.
