Chemicals used for schools disinfection not harmful- Zoomlion

Ahafo Regional Manager for Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), Edward Ziddah has assured parents the chemicals used for the mass disinfection in schools is not harmful and dangerous to the their wards health.

According to him, all chemicals used by the waste expert, Zoomlion in the mass disinfection would not have any health implication to the students when schools’ re-open on the said dates as directed by the President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“Chemicals used for the exercise is one litre of chlorine to ten litres of water mixed up for the disinfection of these schools and tertiary insitutions,” he stated.

Mr. Ziddah made these statement in an interview with the media during the mass disinfection in the region.

“Chemicals we are using for the exercise is not harmful to mankind and the environment so parents should not be worried and disturbed of the health of their wards as they go back to school,” he assured.

Adding that, the exercise would be a continuous routine to combat the Covid-19 and also ensure all schools, social places and markets are safe.

In all, 692 basic, 31 Senior High Schools and one tertiary institution were disinfected.

Meanwhile, the Asunafo Municipal Education Director, Margrette Buobu revealed, the Directorate would be embarking on a ‘Back to School’ campaign to sensitize parents on the importance of allowing their wards to go back to school when school reopens.

Indicating that, 50 communities in the Asunafo Municipal Assembly would be engaged as a way to ensure wards return to school in the midst of the pandemic, Coronavirus.

She also stated an orientation would be organised for all heads and teaching and supporting staff with regards to the fight against Covid-19, as well as measures put in place to protect wards when school reopens in January 2021.

On infrastructure, she pointed out the Directorate is in talks with all basic and senior high schools to utilise all available classrooms to practice social distancing during learning hours.

Madam Buobu used the occasion to appeal to all parents to allow their wards to come to school when school re-opens and continue to ensure their wards practice and adhere to all safety protocols laid down by the government and authorities of their respective institutions.
