Sir John’s Funeral: Resign for frivolous comments over breach of Covid-19 protocols – Freddie Blay told

Comments made by the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Worsemao Armah Blay, on the breach of Covid-19 protocols at the funeral of late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John, has received a swipe from Blessed Godsbrain Smart.

The Smart Show host on Smart TV said Mr. Blay should resign as Chair of the NPP for making such unwarranted comments following castigations that followed the incident at the funeral of the former General Secretary of the NPP.

Speaking on the show Wednesday, June 10, 2021, Mr. Smart averred Freddie Blay should tender in his resignation with immediate effect for making those comments.

He explained Mr. Blay’s statement in quest to exonerate the NPP from the mess at the funeral suggests family of late Sir John and elders of Sakra Wonoo should be blamed for the breach.

“The NPP National Chairman, Freddie Blay is now saying the funeral was organised by the family. If I were you, I would have resigned as National Chairman,” he said.

He quizzed “why do the police arrest those who organise their own parties? Are you saying the families of Sir John must be arrested? You mean the party didn’t organise the funeral so you’re putting the family in a position to be hated?

According to Mr. Smart, if Freddie Blay had not spoken at all, it would have been better.

He furthered that “some of you leading the party do anything for people to insult us [NPP which he says he’s a member],” elucidating that “the whole country trooped to Wonoo because the President, Vice President and Chief Justice were there so you should come and apologise [and] stop blaming Wonoo people because they haven’t done anything.”

He said Ghanaian leaders don’t respect the citizenry, which is the reason they see no reason to apologise.

“Any leadership would have come to apologise but because you don’t respect us, you don’t bother. In certain jurisdictions, the leadership would have apologised. Come and apologise to us because we are not fools to vote for you to disrespect us afterwards,” he added.

He said the Information Ministry was expected especially to issue a statement to apologise to the nation but has failed to do so, and asked the president to update the nation on the virus come Sunday.

Even though the President, Veep, Chief Justice and other dignitaries wore their face masks at the event, Captain Smart noted it’s not right to make rules for it to be broken in such glaringly manner because it doesn’t paint a good picture.
