What Lionel Messi said about Cristiano Ronaldo after Ole Solskjaer sacking

Cristiano Ronaldo scored Manchester United’s consolation goal in their 4-1 defeat by Watford on Saturday afternoon, which cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his job as boss

Lionel Messi admits Cristiano Ronaldo has adapted extremely well to every club he’s joined, and it’s no different at Manchester United.

Ronaldo has been a positive in a disappointing season for the Red Devils and has netted nine times in all competitions.

But the striker’s good form couldn’t keep Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a job, and he was sacked on Sunday following United’s 4-1 defeat by Watford.

Messi followed Ronaldo’s lead in leaving La Liga in the summer and joining Paris Saint-Germain, three years after the Portuguese swapped Real Madrid for Juventus.

On how his long-time rival Ronaldo has been getting on since, and specifically at Man United, Messi admitted well.

“United are a very strong team with great players. Cristiano already knew the club, but that was at another stage and now he has adapted in an impressive way,” Messi told Marca.

“From the beginning, he has scored goals as always and had no problems adapting. In the Premier League, it is not as good as we all thought, but it is a very difficult and even competition in which things take a lot of turns.

“After December it changes a lot and anything can happen.”

On whether he misses competing against Ronaldo on a regular basis, he added: “It’s been a long time since we stopped competing in the same league.

“We competed individually and as a team for the same goals. It was a very beautiful stage for us and also for the people because they enjoyed it very much. It is a beautiful memory that will remain in the history of football.”
