Chief flees palace after armed men attacked him at Aowin

Chief of Sewun in the Aowin Traditional area in the Western North region has fled his palace after being chased by armed men.

Nana Apena III has been telling Ghanasonline.com he heard an announcement on radio that he has been destooled.

“So I called my kingmakers and asked them if they have destooled me because they are the only people who can do that and they told me to be patient because nothing like that has happened”, he explained.

Nana Apena III further elucidated how he was attacked by some men suspected to be from the Enchi Omanhene’s palace, Beyeoman Tano Kwaw Benbuin IV on his way to escort his Gyaasehene.

He indicated “they confronted us with a pick up vehicle from the Omanhene’s Palace and started shooting, so we rushed to the room of the Gyaasehene and escaped through the back door.”

“I called the Divisional Crime Officer and reported the issue to him, and by the time he sent policemen to the place, the perpetrators have eloped.

Nana said he informed the divisional and regional police commanders of the incident.

Police intervention and investigations

Meanwhile, on Angel FM’s Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ with Captain Smart, the Enchi Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Daniel Sogah disclosed “there are two chiefs operating simultaneously at Sewun”.

He says “it was announced on the 19th of this month that Nana Apena III is no more a chief of Sewum and therefore, Nana Mesopon IV should take over.”

DSP Sogah continued whilst Nana Apena was on his way to perform some rituals, some men led by the executioner from the Enchi Omanhene’s palace came to attack him.

He said there was a sprinkle of bullet and two people “were hit on their thighs, arms and waist. Other two on their buttocks, whilst another man was knocked with a gun on the head, with blood oozing all over his body.

A bullet victim

Police follow up and investigations according to DSP Sogah revealed an Information Centre which belongs to a nephew of Nana Apena III was being used to propagate his sovereignty to the stool, which Nana Mesopon IV, however, did not have access to that medium.

The Divisional Crime Officer added both palaces confirmed the incident to him, but the Mesopon palace denied hearing of any gunshot at the scene until one man said he heard of a gunshot but didn’t set eyes on either the gun or the shooter.

The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has been informed of the incident and measures are in place to meet the two factions to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, “those who were hospitalised came to write their Statements on Thursday”

Bullets found at the scene

The Chief executioner, who led the mayhem, Nana Aduhene has been arrested and granted bail including the person that hit someone with the gun.

“We are waiting for complainants to show us other people they lodged complaints about for us to effect arrest”, he added.

Nana Apena has, however, asked for police escort from Accra to attend the MUSEC meeting because his security is under threat.

“They can shoot right in front of the Enchi Police and nothing is done to them so I can’t guarantee my safety at the meeting. So, [it] is like my life at Enchi is not safe, the police are not acting. I can’t go to school, as a teacher at the Nana Brentu Snr. High at Enchi. The higher authority must come in please”, he told Ghanasonline.com.

  1. The crime officer is seriously compromised. He is rather instigating the embattled omanhene to brutalise all those that oppose to him. The officer is enjoying his position as galamsey commander
If nothing is done about it then the people must find a away of defending themselves regardless of the police
