Captain Smart launches Smart TV following suspension from ABN

Suspended Morning Show presenter of the Angel Boradcast Network (ABN), Captain Smart, has announced the launch of his own media organisation after being taken off air by his employer.

At around 21:00 hours Saturday May 8, 2021, Captain Smart on his online TV, announced the commencement of Smart TV, with the tagline, Fearless, saying he will be addressing issues of national interest until it is developed into a fully fletched television station.

He explained that a license has been secured to operationlise the TV station, with measures in place to add up a radio and online platform making the Smart Media Network.

Announcing the development to Ghanaians, he explained that that would be the surest means to speak to the ills of governance without any unforeseen hand issuing him threats.

Beginning Sunday, May 9 at 19:00 hours, he will be hosting a full programme to comment on current events bedeviling the state that is becoming inimical to Ghana’s development.

“Until I see better roads, better schools, better hospitals, the youth getting jobs to do, I’ll never stop talking and nobody can keep my mouth shut,” he fumed whilst Ghanasonline.com keenly followed.

Captain Smart was suspended from the ABN following pressure from some government officials to his boss, Kwaku Oteng, for making government unpopular through some of his utterances.

The company according to Mr. Oteng was threatened with tax arrears from the Ghana Revenue Authority to take the vociferous presenter from air to abate the daily criticism being meted to some government officials and the Akufo-Addo led administration as a whole.

This has sparked debate amidst a period where a section of the citizenry feel there is a culture of silence where people who express their views are either threatened from above or are attacked by what the media has termed “social media landguards”, hired by government officials.
